DESCRIPTIONThe Common Impala is one of the most abundant antelopes in Africa and the most hunted species. Every first time visit to Africa will include hunting an Impala. Impalas range between 73 and 92 cm (29 and 36 in) tall. Average mass for a male impala is 46 to 76 kg (100 to 170 lb), while females weigh about 37 to 50 kg (82 to 110 lb). Impala are normally reddish-brown in color, have lighter flanks and white underbellies with a characteristic "M" marking on the rear. Impala Males have horns, which can reach up to 90 centimeters in length. Female Impala have no horns. Impala are extensively hunted in Africa, with most hunters hunting the Impala on every trip.
Impala are found in herds of up to 200 animals with the males forming bachelor herds, which only join in the rutting season. Hunting the Impala is usually done very early or in the late afternoon when they are more active.
Anything from a .270 upwards is a suitable rifle and shots are usually taken from a close distance.
A good male will have thick-based horns, extending upwards and outwards a good deal before curling back and upwards. The tips of the horns tend to flair outwards and become shiny with age.
Impala are very common and hunted all over Africa. Grootpan Hunting Safaris hunt impala in South Africa and in Zimbabwe. The Limpopo province produces outstanding trophies on a regular basis
